Christmas Eve in the Sahara

We woke up bright and early (okay, so just before 7:00-good thing it was winter!) to enjoy the sunrise. Or most of us did. We decided that Jonas could use a couple more minutes of sleep.

When we were heading back to camp we saw that Jonas was bolting toward us. 'Where is the sun?!?' he yelled. I was worried that he was going to be disappointed that he had missed the sunrise, and I pointed out the sun which was well into the sky. 'Okay,' he responded and bolted back to the tent and under his warm covers.
That morning we were able to enjoy breakfast outside.

The little birds were especially excited to come and clean up after Evaëlle

The kids ran free in the sandsunes, clearly in the elements, while Daniel and I just relaxed and let our breakfast digest.

Omar prepared the camels and called us when it was time to go. These two became buddies, as Jaxon tried to learn all he could about the camel business.

We did over two hours on the camels that morning. I was worried that Evaëlle would get tired of it, but no. She loved riding the camel, and as soon as she was off it she would talk about how she wanted to ride a camel.

We arrived at our destination-an abandonned village. Or almost abanonned. There is still one family that lives there.

We bought some souvenires from the one remaining village woman.

Youssef had come out to make us a pizza Berber

Jonas was SO excited when they came him his very own bottle of Coca Cola, which he proceed to guzzle.

Daniel staring off into Algeria.

This is after Jonas proceed to vomit up his Coca Cola. Too much of a good thing, I suppose. Especially when you are used to not having any.
Jaxon disappeared with Omar to get the camels an then we headed back to camp.

When we got back we did some sandboarding.

A chicken tagine for Christmas Eve dinner.

This even they brought out the music.

After the party, we headed out for some more star gazing
And, of course, we hung up the stockings before it was time for bed.
