Volcanoes and whales

We started our first full day in the Myvatn region with a hike up Mt. Hverfell volcano to view it's tephra crater. Jonas was excited at first, then got a little bit nervous about setting foot on a volcano. Daniel finally talked him into it.

After that we headed to the Dimmuborgir lava field

After that, time for whales!

To get ready for our whale watching tour we visited the whale museum in Husavik.

Our first what sighting, a humpback whale
It cracked me up to see all the boats swarm around the whale, but I think I missed a good whale pic when I was getting the boats.

In between whales we spotted our first puffins, which Jaxon was thrilled about.

Jaxon got to try out driving the boat.

A minke whale
My whale watching trip in a nutshell: Lots of watching, moderate sea sickness, and a little bit of whales. The kids loved it, though, and every time we were in the water during our trip after this they wanted to play whale watching.
We rarely do the same restaurant twice, but Jonas had been asking us all day to go back to get his favorite fish, so we couldn't turn the kid down. Plus the food was delicious, so everyone was happy.
