Completing the family

So, for a long time now Jonas has been talking about how he wants a baby at our house, how he would wipe the baby's bum and sleep with the baby and give the baby a binkie and on and on. He also has been talking about wanting a dog. So having to pick one or the other...we went for the baby. You know how much trouble puppies can be. We didn't tell the kids until we went in for the first ultrasound at 12 weeks a couple of months ago. Jaxon immediately knew what it was when he saw the baby; Jonas didn't understand what was going on as quickly. When he realized what was going on, his response was, "I'm not going to kill the baby, mom." Nice that he could put our minds at ease. But it was Jaxon's reaction that surprised me the most. He has never shown any interest in having a baby in our house, and I even asked him if he would like to have a baby in our family after I knew I was expecting and his response was like, "Nah." As soon as he found out, however, all of that changed. He was so excited after the ultrasound he wanted to scream the news from the rooftops. At least he was literally screaming “Ma maman a un bébé dans son ventre!” (My mom has a baby in her tummy) from the top of the jungle gym. I was glad that I didn't tell him until he could tell the whole world. We are all excited for this baby (even if it came a little faster than expected) who, if everything goes as planned, should be the last little piece of our family puzzle.

  1. Felicitacions, Janet! (I don't know why it surprised me to read that Jaxon was speaking in FRENCH considering you LIVE in FRANCE...wait, I think it's Switzerland now...at any rate, it kind of caught me off guard!) That is such great news! I can't believe how big and handsome your boys are.
Yes, we are moving to Sacramento this week - crazy! I'm sad to leave friends here, but think it will be a good move for our family.
I sure do miss you! Hope I get to see you again someday (:

    1. Oh Emily, you should know me better than that. Do you have a headless picture of your cute little belly at five months? I could post that!

  4. Hooray! HOORAY!

Okay, so I've been trying to add up the math, and all I know is that you are a "couple of months" beyond 12 weeks. That sounds like you're about 7 months pregnant! Do you know the gender yet?

That is one lucky baby to be born into your family. Congratulations!

  5. Oh, an one more important question-- are you coming back to the states to deliver or will you do it over there? When my sister was living in Ghana, she flew back to PA when she was 8 months pregnant, and then stayed with my parents until she gave birth and then for about 6 weeks afterwards. Her reasoning was that if she gave birth while living overseas, her child couldn't run for president!

Anyway, just curious what your plans are. Congrats again!

    1. Hi Karisa,
I am 5 months along now, the baby is due in September. We already had the second ultrasound but decided not to find out the gender. Since this is the last time we thought it would be interesting to do it a little differently. I'll give birth here. Switzerland is a great place to deliver, from what I have heard, and plus we have Swiss insurance that probably wouldn't cover a delivery in the U.S. Besides, the job of president of the United States isn't something I'd wish on an enemy, much less my own child. At least I can make this one decision for this child and hopefully s/he will aspire to a less painful position...Maybe Secretary of State or something;) Anyway, I love following your adventures! You better be careful or you are going to have wards worldwide trying to recruit you as Primary President!
