We started New Year's Eve morning with yet another delicious Moroccan breakfast, this one complete with the local goat cheese specialty.
Afterward we headed up for a day of hiking in the Rif mountains. Interesting fact: This also happens to be the world's largest cannabis production area in the world.
We hiked up to the Pont de Dieu.We only got lost a couple of times. We found that Moroccan trails are not quite as well marked as Swiss trails.
Daniel enjoying some of his oranges.
It really was like eating orange juice.
We went back to the main square in Chefchaouen after our hike
I was really excited to get Evaëlle a henna tattoo. She loved it. Daniel wasn't quite as keen
That evening we rented out the private pool at the riad where we had enjoyed the hamman the evening before. The one rule was that we couldn't make too much noise. That was sort of a challenge.
After swimming we decided to try a differnt restaurant. Unfortunately it was a mistake and our New Year's Eve meal turned out to be one of our most disappointing in the country. You always know it is a bad sign when they add french fries on top of the tagine.
The tea and gâteau were good however.
Unfortunately there were no big New Year's Eve parties in this sleepy town, which Jaxon was bummed out about. We had a quite little party, just mom and dad and Jaxon to try to make up for it, watching some Studio C videos until we could celebrate the New Year in Switzerland, which, to our luck, made it so we could go to sleep in peace and hour earlier.
