We started the day filling up on a delicious farm breakfast
It was always a struggle to get the kids away from farmhouse.
Today we headed out to explore the Krafla area
We started with a visit to Viti ('hell'-in Icelandic) caladera.
Evaëlle didn't particularly appreciate it at first, then she warmed up.
Steam escaping from under the earth's crust
Jonas loved the throwing-rocks-into-calderas part
Our first up close with boiling mud holes. Stay on the path!
Next we headed to the Leirhnjúkur lava field area to see more volcanic footprints
Next up, Hverir geothermal field with numerous bubbling mud caudrons and hissing steam vents
And finally, the Myvatn Nature Baths, a natural hot lagoon. All the kids were required to wear floaties as there was little visibility just inches under the milky blue waters.
After we were nice, relaxed, and thoroughly warm we headed to the Cowshed restaurant, with great cow-milking dinner entertainment.
And no better way to end dinner than with a visit to some little calves.
