After breakfast (and for Jonas, some morning math work), we set out for day 2 of our exhibition into Petra.
We ended up doing the "Indiana Jones" horse tour in the morning to give the kids a break from walking.
Birds-eye view of the treasury
Desert onions
Some tea with a view
The horses let us off just short of the high point of sacrifice
After enjoying the high point, we started our hike down back to the Petra beaten path, hoping that we were going the right direction....
The hike down was fabulous. We were completely alone, and it was here that we really got a sense of the immensity of the ancient city. At each corner we found yet another facade, not even on the map.
Lion carving
A bit perilous at times....
View over the Royal Tombs.
Playing in red petra sand mixed with goat droppings.
A little snack in the shadow of the treasury.
Jonas doing tricks.
We spent the evening at a shop run by a slew of brothers who shared with us their tea, their stories, their religion, their music, and their lamentings on the dying tourist industry.
