Berlin zoo

We spent our first full day in Berlin at the zoo. Do zoos really need much commentary?

This is Bao Bao, a gift from China in 1981. He was the oldest living panda in captivity, that is, until he died three days ago. Bummer. At least we saw him before he passed on.

This is the coolest tire swing. At first you think, there is no way that the tires are going to touch, that wouldn't be safe...

But they do touch and the kids love it!

After the zoo we headed to KaDeWe, which claims to be the biggest department store on the continent. We checked out the gourmet food floor and especially found the American food section amusing. Really, this is the best America has to offer in the way of food--fake cheese and boxed cakes? I guess it does offer convenience; however, the other great benefit, being super cheap, doesn't hold here. The cake mixes run about $8.
